Stacked traits
GM crops are now being grown which have been genetically engineered to be both pest resistant and herbicide tolerant, or which are tolerant to more than one herbicide or resistent to several different pests.
These "stacked traits" are produced by combining two or more GM traits using conventional breeding.
An increasing number of crops with stacked traits, especially maize, are being grown in North and South America and some have been approved for import into the European Union for use in food or feed.
